The Teaching and Learning Knowledge Base is a joint project of the Office of Digital Learning and Inquiry (DLINQ) and the Center for Teaching, Learning, and Research (CTLR). The idea for the T&LKB grew from conversations in a CTLR Advisory Committee meeting during Fall 2020, around how to provide more access to the valuable teaching tips that faculty share with each other during synchronous professional learning opportunities offered by CTLR, DLINQ, and other partners. The group identified 3 goals for the T&LKB:
  • Capture good teaching ideas in a tangible, searchable, reusable way
  • Provide an asynchronous option for sharing good teaching ideas
  • Provide a space for sharing and conversation around teaching practice across the institution
As a next step, DLINQ identified and installed a knowledge base platform (the Assignment Bank WordPress theme), and then facilitated a conversation with a small group of Middlebury College and Middlebury Institute faculty to gather input as to what features would be most useful to faculty at the institution. After making adjustments to the T&LKB based on that feedback, the T&LKB had its soft launch in January 2021 during the Contemporary Teaching in the Liberal Arts workshop series. That conversation generated excellent feedback that we are using to make additional adjustments to the T&LKB.
